Adam Hersh Auctions

Pulling Every Growth Lever

When Marketworks launches a new feature or service, Adam Hersh of Adam Hersh Auctions is always first to jump on it.  An eBay veteran, prominent seller of posters and other art products, and active member of eBay's Trading Assistant network, Adam is constantly innovating to further grow sales.

According to Adam, eBay is a game of "survival of the fittest" -- merchants who are precise, organized, efficient, and intelligent about their approach to selling are the ones who prosper.

So what has made Adam Hersh's business prosper?  Here are just a few of the levers he pulls on a regular basis to fuel growth:

  • Automate From End to End .  From listings, to checkout, to notifications, to Second Chance Offers, Adam has automated tedious processes with Marketworks.  This is crucial for sustaining more than 100,000 auctions per month.  Marketworks' notifications alone provide huge efficiency advantages.  "We have up to 13 notifications or actions that need to be managed per order and thousands of customers per week.  If we were to attempt to manage notifications manually, we would need something like 50 people to handle it," according to Adam.  "Just as importantly, knowing what to send and when to send it is too complex for a human to manage accurately."
  • Drive Qualified Traffic.  Adam has aggressively used Marketworks' new Channel Feeds to drive qualified shoppers from Froogle to his Marketworks storefront. Having managed these feeds manually before, this new functionality was a welcomed enhancement for Adam.  In addition, Adam maintains Google campaigns which also feed to his storefront.
  • Use Every Opportunity to Upsell.  Marketworks' checkout is Adam's favorite place to upsell customers.  For example, for every buyer purchasing a poster, Adam offers an appropriately sized frame.  His efforts have been tremendously successful -- one out of three buyers take him up on checkout offers.
  • Drive Repeat Purchases.  To draw buyers back to his storefront, Adam offers a 10% off coupon in post-transaction thank you emails to all buyers. Adam noticed an immediate and marked increase storefront sales as a result of the offer.
  • Capitalize on Promotions.  In addition to the 10% off coupon, Adam has had strong success with a "free gift" offer in which he gives customers a choice of posters from which to select.

Adam is currently in the process of launching email marketing campaigns using Marketworks Mail.  He is pleased with the solution's ability to alert him on email best practices (e.g., it warned him about using the word "free" in subject lines to help avoid the triggering of spam filters).  He will also work with Marketworks to design a professional email template that will carry his brand across his email campaigns.
